When do you feel most…your nationality?

It doesn’t happen very often that here in The Netherlands, the winters are cold enough to go iceskating on natural ice. But NOW it is and it makes me very happy to go out and try. So my play of today was Movement Play on ice.

Another thing happened. When I’m on iceskates like this on natural ice, it makes me feel very Dutch. Same thing that happens when I’m on a bicycle (I always rent one if I can, when I’m travelling). So my question to you is, when do you feel most…[your nationality]? What are you doing then?

By the way. I usually see people as Earthlings, sharing more in common than being diverse. But there are these little instances that we feel more closely connected to our heritage, to the country we were born in.

Movement Play

If you like to move your body, whether it is taking a regular walk, dance on music or play active sports, you’re favorite play might be Movement Play. Inspired by JP Sears (who took it from Joanna Rohrback) I tried Prancercising, which was a lot of fun.

Try it next time you are taking a walk. It made me feel light, playful and a bit weird (in a good way).

Here is the link to JP Sears that inspired me to try this

Creative Play

Today’s laundry

Last weekend I wasn’t feeling great. I had a tendency to emotionally withdraw from my love, and to rather spend time alone than with him and his kids. So I went to my house (we live in two houses) and tried to reconnect to myself by meditating. This didn’t do the trick fully, so I decided to put on some music and move my body to it (#movement play) in the hope this would help. And it did, a little bit; playing and dancing to “Shake it off” by Taylor Swift. Then I felt inspired to take out some big pieces of paper and my paint (which I haven’t used for about two years) and started playing with colors. This creative play finally let me BE in the present moment. It was fun to see how the colors mixed and what inspiration came up to move them around on the paper. I did three of them. I’m not unhappy with the result, but that is not the point. It was all about the process of doing them, that got me connected back to myself and feel better.

The next day I took my paint and papers to my boyfriends house and introduced this way of working to them. Everybody wanted to try it too. We had a lovely time creating our very different paintings and admiring eachothers results. The kids loved it and one of them asked me if we could do something creative like this every two weeks. Play connects. To ourselves, being in the present moment and then to others where we share our play with.

My first vlog (day 1)

This morning I went out for a walk and got inspired to take my phone and shoot this little video. I don’t do new years resolutions, but every year (for the past 5 years) I choose a word. My word for 2019 is EMERGE and I’m really curious what will emerge for me (and through me) this coming year.

The funny thing is that my workcalender is totally empty up until May 2d, when I have to teach a Leadership & Personal Development course to MBA students in Tallinn Estonia. So it feels a bit like I’m standing in front of a big white empty canvas. On one hand a bit scary, where should I start? On the other hand very exciting and full of possibilities.

Hahaha, as I am writing this, an actual white canvas that is standing in my room on a painters easel is falling down on the floor. (maybe a sign I should paint something).

So I give myself a Licence to Play and see how my life will unfold in a playful way. That doesn’t mean that I will say No to workopportunities, but I will only say Yes when they feel right.
